Loneliness…everyone experiences it from time to time.
It is often related to widows, nursing home residents, older people after their children are gone…
While that depth of loneliness is surely deeper than most, loneliness is no respecter of age or stage of life.
There were several people in the Bible who experienced loneliness.
I think of Hannah, Elijah, Paul, Anna, Ruth, David…even Jesus!
Satan bellows into that fire of loneliness…puffing it up and making it as miserable as we will allow him to.
The scriptures this month cover Gods companionship with us, how even Jesus experienced loneliness and being forsaken, and some scriptures to help combat loneliness.
I believe that God allows us to feel lonely sometimes so that we will draw closer to Him. That’s what we should do in any trial.
We have to be careful feeling sorry for ourselves (someone always has it worse!). Self pity hinders us from experiencing God’s help in healing.
One way to combat loneliness is by being a blessing to someone else. Reaching out to bless others can be blessing to us, too!
I hope that none of you reading this are feeling lonely, but if you are please know that you aren’t alone. Draw near to God, praise Him for His greatness, think of things that you have to be thankful for, think of other people who might be lonely- send them a card, text, or letter, bring them flowers, invite them over for coffee…
