I have chalk painted multiple pieces of furniture and smaller projects. It is a great and inexpensive way to update a piece.

This is a before after of a recent piece.

My favorite thing about chalk paint is that you don’t have to sand the piece first. Just clean it and get started!
I usually make my own chalk paint using the Valspar paint samples (any latex paint would work)…

Water, and plaster of Paris (one box/bucket will last you a very long time).

I use this basic recipe:
1 8oz paint sample
1/4 c water
1/4 c Plaster of Paris
Mix the water and plaster of Paris together and then add it to the paint and stir it well.
One 8oz paint sample is enough to cover an average size chest of drawers, or coffee table.
Here are a few projects that I have chalk painted to give you an idea of the difference a little cheap paint can make!

I have also successfully used the Folk Art Chalk paint from Hobby Lobby.

After painting your projects, you should seal them with some kind of paste wax. I have used the ones below, and have my own wood butter that I make that you can also use.

Sometimes I use a brush & sometimes just a soft cotton rag.
Do you have any projects that you have been thinking about painting? What are you waiting for?
It is a satisfying project. It’s inexpensive and can completely change the look of a room!
Any questions? I’d be happy to help!
